With reference to Sir Philip Cunliffe-Lister's
Secret despatch of 9th April, 1934, on the subject of the amendment of the Deportation Ordinance, 1917, I have the honour to invite attention to my despatch No. 525 of 18th September, 1935, forwarding for the signification of His Majesty's pleasure an Ordinance intituled "An Ordinance to consolidate and amend the law relating to the deportation of undesirable aliens."

As a great majority of the deportees from this Colony are of Chinese race, for whom entry into China is unrestricted, it is not considered that travel documents, issued by the authorities of the country of destination, (vide paragraph 3 of the despatch under reference), will ordinarily be required. It is presumed that travel documents would only be necessary in the rare cases where an order is made under section 11 of the Ordinance that the deportee shall depart by a particular train or ship, and his destination is a country requiring such documents.
